"Over-worked, harried and terrified of being put in foster care, 17-year-old Katie Gibbs (Lucy Hale) does her stepmother and step-siblings' bidding without complaining. Her singing talent is recognized when she accidentally puts her own-made tape at the Massive Records Company President, Guy Morgan, while talking about putting a talent showcase for the Performing Arts Department at their private school with his son, Luke. Back at home, Bev van Ravensway, her stepsister, starts to practice singing to she can win a recording contract with Guy. Bev's mom, Gail, gets a call from Guy and tells her to listen to Katie's tape. Gail lies and says that it was Bev's tape and that Katie stole it. Meanwhile, Victor, Katie's stepbrother, takes her clothes and towel when Katie's takes a bath and traps her out of the house. Katie, then, tries all the ways she know to go back in but fails. She was desperate that she wore the door mat of the house. She waits outside and meets Luke, who gives her his jacket. Bev opens the door and spends time with Luke, while Bev's mom went to Katies room and forces her to sing. They drive Luke out of the house and start planning to use Katie's voice to get the attention of Guy. At school, Katie's bestfriend, Angela, talks to her about it and goes with her home. She gives Katie a costume to wear at a school party. Gail comes shouting outside and Katie's best friend hides just as Bev's mom opens the door and tells her to stay at home after seeing the costume but her Angela devises a plan, after Bev and her mom leaves the would also leave the house and leave Victor to Tony, the house guru who is secretly a singer. At the party, Katie leads Luke outside and sings, which makes Luke fall in love with her, while Angela distracts Gail by a dance duel.After the dance, Bev's mom feels sick and goes outside to vomit. Katie escapes just in time and hurriedly goes home, only to be finding Gail already waiting for her. Her stepmom threatens to expel Angela if she does not sing for Bev, Katie then agrees to save her bestfriend. Luke then tries to find "The Girl with a Beautiful Voice", but he finds Bev singing using Katie's voice in the music room and mistakes her for the girl. Luke invites her to dinneam and film Katie, thus exposing Bev and Katie's bestfriend pushes her onstage where she sings a song and kisses Luke. Bev's mom tries to shut the cam just to be stopped by Tony. Luke's father tells Luke that he wants Katie and Luke to make a song for Massive Records Company. Gail escapes and is seen singing Katie's song at a local ranch just to be laughed at by the people, thus indicating that she and her family(except Victor) became poor and Katie became rich."
